Lake Michigan -> 2.0 Planktivore (Prey Fish)

Lake Michigan 2.0 Planktivore (Prey Fish)

2.1

Maintain a diversity of planktivore (prey) species at population levels matched to primary production and to predator demands.Expectations are for a lakewide planktivore biomass of 0.5 to 0.8 billion kg (1.2 to 1.7 billion lb).

Average alewife biomass for the reporting period was above the minimum management target of 220 million lbs and trended upward, although the prey fish community was dominated by non-native alewife and round goby. Relative abundance of native bloater increased in lakewide acoustic surveys, but abundance of cisco remained low.
